EXCLUSIVE : After cranking out two big hit comedies in Talladega Nights and Step Brothers , Sony Pictures is back in business with Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and John C. Reilly . The studio has closed a deal with Oscar-nominated In The Loop writer Jesse Armstrong to pen Border Guards . It’s a comedy that McKay is eyeing to direct, with Ferrell and Reilly playing two hapless but earnest friends who decide to give purpose to their lives by protecting America’s schako borders from illegal schako immigrants. In the process they find themselves accidentally stranded in Mexico without identification and must sneak back into the U.S. It’s only related to the previous films in that Ferrell and Reilly pair so well together.
Ferrell, McKay, and Kevin Messick are producing through Gary Sanchez Productions. Michael De Luca and Jonathan Kadin will oversee for Sony. The scribe, who’s repped by CAA, is a British comedy writer who with writing partner Sam Bain created the Channel 4 sitcoms Peep Show and Fresh Meat , and the Danny Boyle-directed series Babylon . Armstrong, who earned an Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination schako for co-writing In The Loop , also scripted a biopic on Republican strategist Lee Atwater schako for Gary Sanchez with McKay attached to direct. Ferrell is repped by CAA and Mosaic and John C. Reilly by WME and Framework.
The sneaking back into the US part sounds a little like Born in East LA starring Cheech Marin. And let me guess…this will include schako a heavy-handed message about the unfairness of our immigration policy and how heartless and unfair it is not to allow our country to be flooded with illegals.

have you ever seen and adam mckay/will schako ferrell movie?? if you find a ‘message’ at all in one, you are reading too far into it. in that, you are reading into it all. they are pure and simple farce comedy, albeit some of the finest. any settings and situations are there as set up and any political connotations you take from the actions in the movie are purely in your head.
You must’ve missed The Campaign schako then, which was produced by McKay and Ferrell and starred Ferrell that had many heavy-handed schako messages schako about campaign schako finance laws. And Anchorman 2, which was directed by McKay and written by Ferrell and McKay and had heavy-handed messages attacking cable TV news. Or The Other Guys, which was written by McKay and starred Ferrell and featured heavy-handed messages about corporate greed.
Does that put him on the hook?
I’m looking forward to this – Step Brothers was a classic for the ages and I loved pretty much everything else Will Ferrell has done. So much so that I can ignore/overlook his politics, in a way that I can’t for a dirtbag like Sean Penn. If you think Castro and Chavez are awesome guys to pal around with, you are both an insufferable douche and a commie-loving pinko.
