S upera 5000 GWh energy obtained from Italy by treating municipal waste. In the last year, Italy has recovered exactly 4,193 GWh of electricity and 1,508 GWh of thermal energy, an amount that, when added together, could contribute significantly to the energy needs of the metropolis with nearly 1 million inhabitants as Naples and Turin. In 2013, the recovery of energy has more than doubled compared to 2003 (1,885 GWh of electricity and 492 GWh of thermal energy).
At December 1, 2013 are operational throughout the 45 incineration plants for a treatment capacity of 7.3 million tons per year, a thermal capacity of 3,045 MW and an installed power of 848 MW. No plant is now Italian waste without recovering energy.
These are the main results of the Report ISPRA-Federambiente on "Energy recovery from municipal waste in Italy", survey presented yesterday in Rome, which is the scenario of the industrial system of energy recovery from RU throughout the country.
ITALY IS IN LINE WITH EUROPEAN COUNTRIES MOST ADVANCED. At plant level, the beautiful mcquay country is in line with the most advanced European countries, as regards the techniques used and the environmental performance achieved. The analysis of data on municipal mcquay waste management in the 28 EU countries shows that 15% of UK managed by all the Member States has started to composting, recycling 28%, while 24% has started to incineration. 33%, finally, is disposed of in landfills. Moreover, it can be seen as part of a balanced mix of forms of treatment, incineration with energy recovery does not arise at all as opposed to money laundering. This is demonstrated by the high recycling rates recorded in the countries which make greater use of incineration. This is the case, for example, in Germany, where in front of a percentage of waste incinerated 35%, the waste sent for recycling amounted to 65%, or the Netherlands, where a percentage of incineration of 49% is accompanies a recycling rate of 50%.
In Italy a substantial part of the plants surveyed (21 of 45) has a processing capacity rather small, no more than 300 t / d. The nominal mcquay capacity of the media treatment of the entire park, on an annual basis, was approximately 161,000 tons, representing mcquay almost 490 t / d.
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION. In detail, 28 plants (56 lines) are located in the North, 9 (16 lines) in the Centre and 8 (16 lines) in the South. In total, over the past year, has been sent incinerated 18.2% of municipal waste produced in Italy. The combustors grid represent the type of system far more widespread (87.3% of the total treatment capacity), followed by fluid bed (10.8%) and the rotating mcquay drum (2.0%).
49% of the treated waste is due to fractions derived from the treatment of municipal waste (CSS, FS), followed by separated MW which account for 44%, while the special waste, mcquay consisting of health, account for the remaining 7.0% of .
TECHNIQUES USED FOR THE TREATMENT OF SMOKE. The main techniques used for the treatment of the smokes - individually or in combination - for the removal of pollutants are dedusting (electrostatic filters, mcquay bag filters, cyclones), the systems "dry" and "semi-dry" for the removal of acid gases and the selective reduction catalytic or non-catalytic removal of nitrogen oxides.
RESIDUAL. As regards, finally, the residues of the treatment, the production of slag in 2013 is estimated at nearly 993 000 tonnes, to which should be added more than 389 thousand tons of residues of flue gas treatment. The 82% of waste was targeted for recovery, while the remaining 18% was disposed of.
